This was one of my first Japanese handmade brushes and easily became a favourite for cheek products (blush, bronzer and diffused highlighter). The squirrel & goat hair mix makes this brush a perfect mix of softness and blending ability which works with most blushes that i own. If you prefer a shorter handle, do note that the GSN line uses longer handles than the usual fude makeup brush length, so if you tend to be closer to your mirror, you may want to select from Chikuhodo's regular line or their other series.
GSN-4 Highlight / Chikuhodo GSN Series Customer Reviews
Makeup Brush
This is a beautiful brush and the handle design fits the hand very well. I love the versatility of this brush. I use it for blush, bronzer, contour as well as powder. It works pretty much with all powder products. So if you're just looking to invest in a brush, this is sure to be the one for you. The size of the tip isn't too perfect for contouring, but it works very well if you build up the intensity slowly. I have very oily skin. So I personally prefer this brush over the Z series (squirrel hair is very delicate, better for sensitive skin). It covers my pores smoothly and beautifully. In addition, it feels soft on the skin. I decided to buy more chikuhodo brushes for this reason. It is definitely a good investment for makeup lovers
Its shape is very similar to T-4 but it's denser and made of grey squirrel/goat mix, so the softness of both brushes is the same. Very versatile. I can use it for blush, bronzer, contour as well as touch up on the T-zone, not for highlighting because it's a little bit too dense. Overall, a great multitask brush for beginners.
I find that some of the face brushes in the GSN series are a little large for there designated use and work perfectly for the next feature up. For example, the GSN-3 is perfect for all over powder and the GSN-4 is perfect as a cheek brush. The squirrel hair used in this brush is perfect for anyone with sensitive skin. It's not as soft as the Z series however that is not a bad thing. The hair is perfect for picking up blush and applying the perfect amount!
Even though this brush is classified as a highlighting one, I often use it as a cheek brush. It's relatively bigger and denser than other highlighting brushes and if you do use it for highlighting, remember to use it with a finely milled powder such as Charlotte Tilbury Firmstar Bronze, rather than the bling bling Becca Champagne Pop. Whatever the purpose it's still a great brush, blend effortlessly and perfectly, the bristle are very soft and gentle on the skin! For the price I find it's a reasonable brush for the quality. Great for beginners too!
The brush head is smaller than I expected, but I think it's actually perfect to contour the cheeks. It fits right into the hollow of the cheeks.
Squirrel and goat blend makes for an efficient brush. Softer than full goat, not as soft as the Z-series. This is a great brush all-around for medium pigmented blushes and normal to combination skin.
I find this brush to big for highlighting, but perfect for blush. You could even use this for face powder if you like smaller brushes. Very soft, and dense nice brush. Picks up product evenly.
This is an easy brush. The one to have if you are starting to build your collection. It is not the softest out there, but it gets the job done when you are sleepy in the morning and dont need to pay much attention to what you are doing. I love the rounded shape and i find it is dense enough for contouring/bronzer as well.
