Good but not perfect 3

The first time I listened DIM, I was so afraid to listen it after reading tons of negative reviews I almost cried when I realized that this was not so horrible. But I have listened it only two to three times because it doesn't transcended me so much and it bored me, I admit. In fact, I regret that this album needs to be heard in a specific atmosphere. When I'm in the subway, it grows not granny in the nettles, it bothers me quite quickly and I'll listen to something else. But I made the discovery of the century, falling on this CD when I was plunged into darkness, lying on my bed with the iPod on the ears. My vision has completely changed: it really transported me. Each song has its place, even the small interludes, and it almost gives shivers down my back. If taken as it is, it seems insipid, bland and uninteresting. But deep in the right mood, it is really good (although some tracks really annoy me in both cases). And this is probably the biggest worries of this CD because having to dive into a certain mood to listen to an album, it's a bit boring. So, I'm pretty mixed, but for me the album is not rubbish.

Awesome album 5

I'm a little late in reviewing this album, but here it goes. DIM is by far my favourite album from Gazette. I was wondering if they could come up with something even better than Stacked Rubbish and DIM delivered. Maybe because this album's sonority is more of my taste than the previous one. I was highly enthusiastic when it came in the mail (only 2 days after it was released!) and immediately proceeded to see what came with the limited edition. The cover is probably the most awesome cover I ever saw in an album. Really. I can't get enough of staring at it. It was really a great idea to make it that away. Concerning the booklet, I wasn't expecting it to have that kind of pictures, but I can understand the idea behind it. It's not a completely necessary thing, but is a nice addition nonetheless The dvd was - besides the music - my favourite part. The Invisible Wall has a great PV, probably their best until now. And I really enjoyed the documentary in which we could see their everyday work at the studio while recording the album. As far as the album itself is concerned, I see no flaws to point at. I like all songs and my favourites are (excluding the singles): Nakigahara, DIM SCENE, THE INVISIBLE WALL and A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN. Once again, it was a great work by Gazette and a must have for every fan. It was well worth the price and you always have the regular edition :).

DIM Delivers! 4

I've been listening to this CD every day in my car. The music is very accessible. Although somewhat experimental at times, it's not nearly as challenging as some of STACKED RUBBISH was (no rapping, for instance). I must admit I'm not that crazy about the too-poppy IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS or the don't-care-about-melody OGRE. LEECH has been slightly remixed, while GUREN is sporting a remix and some new vocals; both of them sound great. 13STAIRS[-]1 is a winner as well....although it's not entirely appropriate for polite company! And the track I really can't get enough of is the exquisitely tragic NAKIGAHARA - epic and awesome! The booklet contains scenery photographs that are evocative of "DIM". It is completely not necessary for the appreciation of the music. I enjoyed the DVD a lot, though. I think the PV for THE INVISIBLE WALL is one of the best that they have ever made. And even though we only get to see their backs in the documentary, you do get a sense of what it's like to be in the studio and the work that went into creating the album. Every section is clearly labelled so you don't need to know Japanese to understand what's going on. If only every CD came with a documentary like this!

Mixed Fellings 4

Well i did like the album is nice but some songs are just plain weird or just a bunch of mixed sounds... but some songs are very good! I personally liked 13STAIRS{-}1 and NAKIGAHARA and OGRE the artwork was very good too I like the holographic cover very nice but the dvd was so disappointing!! also the extra booklet they don"t show their faces NOT EVEN ONCE!! you may say well they want privacy but if you're making a dvd for the fans whats the point of having half an hour of backs?(very sexy backs though) I must say i find it a little rude even cause if it is a documentary shouldn't have like commentaries? and not just backs? even so you can see that they put a lot of effort on the music which is good... also does someone got the point the point of the extra booklet?cause is just a bunch of random pics...

=) 5

This album is really great. After NIL, it's my second favorite. The band has really matured and they're trying out different things. My favorite track would have to be 13stairs [-]1 when i first read the tracklist, i knew it was going to be an interesting song, and i was right. I loved the documentary. i kind of laughed at first. When i heard that there was going to be a documentary, the first thing that came to my mind was... "oh, of course there will be no showing of faces" wasn't it.. kind of expected? even so, i loved it, it was very interesting watching the album being completed. I've been listening to the whole album so many times now. I get that gloomy and dark feeling. And it's almost like a movie playing. The SE weren't so bad. All in all, this album was awesome.

What's going on ? 2

I'm really decieved by the limited edition... Firstly, the content of the packaging : ok, nice headache giving changing image, but the booklet inside I expected to have some nice photographs from the group didn't have any. Just some industrial photography, quite boring. Then, the content of the DVD : I was expecting, for the price and with the publicity on the internet, to have the 3 videos, Guren and Leech included. Nope, just Invisible Wall, quite repetitive song and the video isn't special. Finally, the worst : the documentary. I can understand the members to want to keep their anonymity by just showing their backs during the explaination of the creation of the album, but it's really boring. No comment, just see what's going on. I've had such a deception for tonight that I don't feel like listening to the music yet. Maybe that will be better. The poster is OK, but a bit dark. I feel like the GazettE is starting to become too commercial and have lost what I liked about them in the past... Authencity.

Beyond all expectations 5

I ordered the album only a day before the release date, because to be honest, I thought "how can GazettE make another album that beats the two previous ones", albums that, in my opinion was absolutely amazing. So I didn't really have high or any expectations at all. Well, DIM completely blew me away and I had to eat my own words. GazettE proves with this album that they have a lot more up their sleeves. They're experimental with the songs and they've matured a lot! For example, track nr 13, in the intro when Ruki does the whispering, that makes me shiver, goes straight to my spine. Absolutely phenomenal. I would say this is honestly their best album to date and I know, GazettE fans won't be disappointed buying this album. Highly recommended!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G 5

First of all DIM was an AMZING album...EVERY track is so great to listen to and I never tire of it. There was an obvious hint of experimental music within the album such as with songs "Nakighara" and "A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN". However, certain tracks seemed to remind me of their older songs such as "Shiroki Yuutsu" and "OGRE". The five instrumentals were great as well and do NOT disturb the album's flow (even though my little brother found the crying baby in "Shikyuu" somewhat depressing). Also, certain songs were remade such as "Guren" and "LEECH" to give a darker feel to them (at least in my opinion). "Guren" seemed to be more focused around Aoi's part and Ruki sang in a different key before the solo which made the song altogether more emotional. Favorites of mine are "Nakigahara", "13STAIRS[-]1", "THE INVISIBLE WALL", and "IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS". But altogether I love each song. an AMAZING purchase for all GazettE fans. Highly recommended.

All that I wanted 5

Maybe it's unusual style for Gazette but I actually expected they do something like this. So all my wishes about this album came true, I'm glad.

Song By Song Review 5

BY FAR my favorite album from the gazette every song is really impressive. My favorites are: the invisible wall, a moth under the skin, nakigahara, distress and coma, dim scene. but the whole album is great! and for javier: the separate booklet does come with your limited edition you don't need to get te first press wich is sold out, the only difference with the first press is that the album came with a poster. and the booklet is a bunch of photographs, really cool.

I have a question because I want buy this album and I don't know what is the difference of the First Press of this Album. it is come with a poster the first press or not? because I want the separate-volume booklet and my fear is that the separate-volume booklet isn't in the album Thank You!

Review. 4

I was waiting for EVER for this, and now I have it (delivered on Monday, actually, but who cares)! Quite impressive even from the packaging - my jaw literally dropped when I was unwrapping the box it came in. I didn't expect anything like that - big thumbs-up to whoever thought about using 3D on it~ As for the album itself, I wasn't sure what to expect. The whole atmosphere was to be darker than previously released materials. Some of the songs were really... Weird? I'm still trying to understand the thing fully, so pardon the lack of better wording. Also the interludes creeped me out at first. But it's definitely not a bad album. It's quite the opposite. All the hype going on about it, the countdowns and all that jazz, was disturbingly annoying though. The first press also came with a poster. Totally didn't expect that :D I think it's safe to say GazettE stil is an impressive band, and this album is what every fan should get if they're expecting to be woo'd. I know I babbled like the happiest tard alive when I finally got it :3

awesome 5

I wasn't exactly prepared for DIM. I usually aware of releases a few months prior to release date. It's the day before before the release and im scrambling all the money i can to get it! YIKES! P.S. The reviewer Katie asked if she will still get the limited edition the answer is YES! First press sold out means the first press isn't available anymore. First press is just bonus stuff you get for getting one of the first prints of copies (or something like that). The point is you get the limited edition type!

very impressive Pre-Release Comment

the packaging for the limited edition is very impressive. the cover moves~ very cool, the photo booklet has really gorgeous imagery and the cd booklet has a very stylish but simple design. i was a little disappointed to listen and not really hear 17 tracks of full songs. 4 were previously released and 5 were short instrumentals, like the background music they have on the OHP. i think if you compared this to the previous album, stacked rubbish, the band sounds like they have matured a lot. the instrumentals are on a higher level, they're complex without sounding distorted or overbearing. overall the songs have a more serious tone, not something you can crowd surf to. i also think the band is starting to sound too repetitive. i like it but disorder is still my favorite album xD
