カンフー映画の金字塔が豪華キャストで新たに蘇る! 1500年の歴史をもつ少林寺、そして世界の無形文化財として保護リストに入っている少林武術。"少林武術"を身近なものにした29年前の大ヒット作『少林寺』で表せなかった「禅武」、つまり「武」をもって「禅」を修めるという、これまで映画で描かれたことのない境地を描いた作品が、今回新しく蘇った『新少林寺』。メガホンをとったのは、香港屈指のアクション映画監督ベニー・チャン。本作品を通して「正義の行いと救済精神を表現したい」と語る監督は、近年世界各地で地震によって家を失った被災者たちを救援するレスキュー隊を、民を救う重任を背負った少林寺の僧侶たちと重ね合わせ、助け合いの精神と団結するパワーを見事に描いている。――1912年の中国。登封城の将軍、霍龍(かく・りゅう)を追って、馬に乗った軍人たちが少林寺に土足で踏み込んでくる。無慈悲な将軍侯杰(こう・けつ)は霍龍を撃ち殺し、少林寺を愚弄する。そんな侯杰だったが、腹心の部下である曹蛮(そう・ばん)の裏切りで最愛の一人娘が命を落とすことに。悲しみに暮れる侯杰を救ったのは、少林寺の厨房係である悟道(ごどう)だった。全てを失いお尋ね者となった侯杰は、一からやり直すために悟道の目の前で髪を切り、出家することを決意する。
