[Machine Translation] Ren Osugi, who sadly passed away suddenly in 2018, produced and starred in his first and last film. The film tells the story of a "chaplain" who struggles to communicate with death row inmates who live a solitary life in solitary confinement. Veteran actors Ken Mitsuishi, Setsuko Karasuma, and Kanji Furudate play death row inmates, and Reo Tamaki makes his film debut. The film is directed and written by Dai Sako, who wrote the screenplays for "Vacation" and "The Festival of Abraxas" and directed "Running on Empty" about a prison guard on death row. --A Protestant pastor, Tamotsu Saeki. As a chaplain, he visits the detention center twice a month to meet with death row inmates who have their own peculiarities. Saeki sympathetically listens to their stories and shares the words of the Bible with them so that they can look into their own sins, repent for them, and live out the rest of their "lives" to the fullest, and face their "deaths" in peace. However, we repeatedly encounter difficulties, such as unintentionally offending them or not being able to get them to open their hearts to us. 2018年に惜しくも急逝した大杉漣、最初のプロデュース作にして最後の主演作。独房で孤独な生活を送る死刑囚たちと心を通わせ苦悩し葛藤する"教誨師(きょうかいし)"の物語。死刑囚役に光石研、烏丸せつこ、古舘寛治といったベテラン俳優や、映画初出演となる玉置玲央。監督・脚本は、死刑に立ち会う刑務官を描いた『休暇』や『アブラクサスの祭』で脚本を担当し、『ランニング・オン・エンプティ』で監督を務めた佐向大。――プロテスタントの牧師、佐伯保。彼は教誨師として月に2回拘置所を訪れ、一癖も二癖もある死刑囚と面会する。佐伯は、彼らが自らの罪をしっかりと見つめ、悔い改めることで残り少ない "生" を充実したものにできるよう、そして心安らかに "死" を迎えられるよう、親身になって彼らの話を聞き、聖書の言葉を伝える。しかし、意図せずして相手を怒らせてしまったり、いつまで経っても心を開いてもらえなかったり、苦難の日々が繰り返される。死刑囚たちと真剣に向き合うことで、自分の人生とも向き合うようになる佐伯。そんな中、ついにある受刑者に死刑執行の命が下される・・・。
