伝説のTV番組"ディック・キャベット・ショー"に、あのレイ・チャールズがやってきた! 3時間半にわたり繰り広げられる軽妙なトークと、全14曲の熱演を完全収録した2枚組。大物アーティストを登場させて全米で人気を博した"ディック・キャベット・ショー"にレイが初めて登場したのは1972年の6月26日。ディックとの息の合ったトークを繰り広げ、「アメリカ・ザ・ビューティフル」他計3曲を演奏した。続いてレイが登場するのは1973年1月26日放送分。この時は他のゲストを交えず、異例とも言える単独での出演となった。「わが心のジョージア」、「エリナー・リグビー」など8曲を披露。そして3回目の出演は1973年7月9日。「アイ・フィール・ソー・バッド」をはじめ、3曲を聴かせる。ディックが繰り出す質問にユーモアを交えながら応えるレイ。そこからは彼の音楽や人生に対する真摯な姿勢をうかがい知ることができる。そしてリラックスした雰囲気の中でピアノに向かう彼の熱唱も聴き応え十分だ。
