是枝裕和監督・西川美和監督の愛弟子 広瀬奈々子 鮮烈のデビュー! デビュー作『誰も知らない』でカンヌ国際映画祭史上最年少の主演男優賞にかがやいた柳楽優弥が、14年の時を経て、是枝監督の愛弟子の作品に主演する、"運命の映画"が誕生! 第19回東京フィルメックス スペシャル・メンション受賞。――地方の町で木工所を営む哲郎(小林薫)は、ある日河辺で倒れていた見知らぬ青年(柳楽優弥)を助け、自宅で介抱する。「シンイチ」と名乗った青年に、わずかに動揺する哲郎。偶然にもそれは、哲郎の亡くなった息子と同じ名前だった。シンイチはそのまま哲郎の家に住み着き、彼が経営する木工所で働くようになる。木工所の家庭的な温かさに触れ、寡黙だったシンイチは徐々に心を開きはじめる。シンイチに父親のような感情を抱き始める哲郎。互いに何かを埋め合うように、ふたりは親子のような関係を築いていく。だがその頃、彼らの周りで、数年前に町で起きた事件にまつわる噂が流れ始める──。
