前作アルバム『southview』から2年。"心躍らす"をテーマに、ダンサブルなナンバーを揃えた前作とは一転、今作は自身初の47都道府県ツアーを遂行し、日本随所を見てきたMONKEY MAJIKが、独自の視点とで"日本=enigma"を描く。侘び寂び、もてなし、近代的、古典的、テクノロジー、伝統、光、闇。日本独自の概念や、日本が持つ「相反する」「複合的」な魅力を【enigma=神秘、謎、解き明かせないもの】に例え、MONKEY MAJIKならではの感性で表現。今回の楽曲の多くは"enigma"のキーワードをベースとして、それぞれが思うままの個性を持ち寄り、どういう相乗作用がもたらされるのかを楽しみながら制作。構成やキャリア、音楽アプローチも、まさに「enigma」なメンバー4人による意欲作。
