Tennen Kokekko (English Subtitles)

Internationally acclaimed Japanese director Nobuhiro Yamashita ("Linda Linda Linda") and screenwriter Aya Watanabe ("Joze ot Tora to Sakanatachi") team up for the peaceful new film, "Tennen Kokekko (A Gentle Breeze In The Village)," out now on DVD with English subtitles.

Based on the popular manga of the same name, "Tennen Kokekko" tells the story of Soyo, the only second year junior high student in the small town of Kimura. Soya's school reflects the recent dwindling of rural populations in Japan, and all six of the town's elementary and junior high school students study in the same classroom. Though Soyo loves her school, she also finds it lonely being the only second year student. Then one day a male student from Tokyo transfers not just into her school, but into her own grade. As Soyo find's friendship in someone her own age, she rediscovers the joys of her small town.

"Tennen Kokekko" stars Kaho, Masaki Okada, Yui Natsukawa, and Koichi Sato. The DVD, out now, features English subtitles and bonus DVD with making-of footage and more. Be sure to check out Rei Harakami's score for the film as well.
