劇場アニメ「攻殻機動隊GHOST IN THE SHELL」そして2004年に日本テレビでO.Aされた「攻殻機動隊 STAND ALONE COMPLEX」と「同 2ndGIG」とつづく「攻殻」で一大ブームをおこした原作の士郎正宗とプロダクションI.Gが、「ポスト攻殻機動隊」として企画した新アニメーション・シリーズ「RD 潜脳調査室」のDVD第1巻。 2話収録。 規律で縛られた現実世界 (リアル)と個人の記憶を情報化したメタリアル・ネットワーク (メタル)の2つの世界の狭間で起こる歪みを調査、究明する潜脳ダイバーの物語。監督を務めるのは『シュヴァリエ』『るろうに剣心 - 明治剣客浪漫譚-』『HUNTER×HUNTER』の古橋一浩、シリーズ構成は『攻殻機動隊 STAND ALONE COMPLEX』で脚本を務めた藤咲淳一、キャラクターデザインは『隻眼獣ミツヨシ』『LAMPO-THE HYPERSONIC BOY』の上山徹郎。主人公のダイバー・波留に『マッハGoGoGo』『科学忍者隊ガッチャマン』をはじめとし現在も第一線で活躍中の森功至、ヒロインのミナモに『家庭教師ヒットマンREBORN!』などに出演しこれからの成長が期待される沖佳苗、他にも『HUNTER×HUNTER』の高橋広樹、『のだめカンタービレ』の川澄綾子、『機動戦士ガンダム00』の藤原啓治と豪華な声優陣をキャスティング!
