前作『ハンド・キャンノット・イレース』がその完成度の高さとプログレッシヴ・ロックの王道ど真ん中をこじ開ける迫真の内容で高く評価され、またアルバム発表後のツアーでは巨大なスクリーンを使った映像と音楽を高次元で融合させた圧巻のステージを繰り広げ、現代プログレ・シーンで孤高の存在となっているスティーヴン・ウィルソンが前作からわずか1年という短期間で発表するソロ5作目となる作品。タイトルが示す通り、このアルバムは、ソロ4枚目だった前作『ハンド・キャンノット・イレース』と5枚目となる次回作を結ぶ経過点として重要な意味を持つ作品とスティーヴン自ら語っている。前作『ハンド・キャンノット・イレース』のレコーディング・セッションで作られた4つの楽曲、『レイヴンは歌わない』時のレコーディングを1曲を収録。本編最後の「ドント・ヘイト・ミー」はポーキュパイン・ツリーの『スチューピッド・ドリーム』に収録されている曲で、2015年ツアーのライブ音源をベースにスタジオ録音を加えている。
日本盤はボーナス・トラック1曲収録: ポーキュパイン・ツリーの2005年作『デッドウィング』収録の名バラード「ラザルス」の2015年ニュー・ヴァージョンで、2015年に発売されたLP『Transience』(日本未発売)に収録されていた楽曲。
