A Toho classic 5

Wonderful movie from Toho, with plenty of kaiju for new and old fans, and CD Japan shipped it quickly and in perfet condition

Godzilla's 50th Anniversary Film! 5

Godzilla Final Wars is an action-packed rollercoaster ride from start to end (no joke). This is one of the greatest kaiju films I have seen in a while. Its got so much action and the whole movie is almost all fighting. The movie is also the longest in the entire Godzilla series running 125 Minutes (2 Hours and 5 Minutes). The only minor thing I had about the movie was the monster fights where a little on the short side. Battles are anywhere from 30 Seconds to 3 Minutes. However the climax is enjoyable and there is a lot of monster fighting plus human fighting all at the same time other than that its spectacular.

It features an All-Star cast of Kaiju's including:
1. Godzilla
2. Anguirus
3. Rodan
4. Mothra
5. King Caesar
6. Kamacuras
7. Kumonga
8. Ebirah
9. Gigan
10. Minya
11. Manda
12. Hedorah
13. Zilla (the kaiju from the 1998 film "GODZILLA")
14. Monster X
15. Keizer Ghidorah

The DVD presentation is amazing it supports 6.1 Surround Sound which sounds more awesome to hear it. In one speaker you hear all the music while another one you hear all the glorious monster roars, while another you will hear the explosions and background music its just awesome. The picture quality is also amazing, there is some grain in a few shots mostly just a few night scenes, but it doesnt bother me. The Special Edition spans 3-Discs. Disc 1 contains the movie, trailers, and a feature which allows you to watch the footage of each individual monster or watch it all the monster sequences.

Disc 2 contains the main bulk of the features, it includes the making of the movie (which gives you some nice close up shots of the suits), advertising campaigns, CGI test footage, Interviews, Godzilla's 50th anniversary premiere in Hollywood +Godzilla receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Story boards, and more which I wont be able to fit in this review.

Disc 3 contains only one extra which is an Hour long Documentary called "The Spirit of Godzilla" its really interesting if you are a diehard fan like I am.

Overall this is a perfect release that deserves a perfect score. It has everything you could possibly want from a DVD plus more. This is the best release of the movie by far (too bad the US release of this movie wasnt this good). Id give it a billion stars if I could. Thanks again for everything CD Japan/Neowing once again you guys rock.

Excellent DVD Release 5

Despite what you think of the movie, which I consider to be decent, the special edition DVD is fantastic. There's plenty of interesting extras here like making-of featurettes, promos, interviews, design and storyboard galleries, and more. Definately recommended for the hardcore Godzilla fans.

Great packaging!!!.....Great movie? 5

Godzilla Final Wars caused a world wide cry of either being a great film or a film not worth being the 50th anniversary film. When I first watched GFW, which was about 1-2 years ago, I thought it was one of the greatest Godzilla movies ever. As time went on, and I watched it more, I could understand why people would be dissapointed that this was the 50th anniversary film. I "LIKE" the film for what it is, but I've come to realize that a better 50th anniversary Godzilla film probably needed to be made. I'm sure if Toho would have a second shot at doing this they would of put in a different director, which would have been a true Godzilla film. I'm not saying this film sucked, because I like this movie alot, but it had too many spin-offs of american films, which were not needed since Godzilla has his own legacy, and of course, has lasted 50+ years.

What about the GFW Special Edition DVD? All I have to say is, WOW. This is easily the best packaging of any Godzilla film. Alot of extra features to hold you over. CDJapan has it for sale right now(about $40..not sure if the sale is permanent). I like the movie alot, but the special edition DVD makes it alot better. Easily recommend this.

Dissapointing 2

Having watched Godzilla: Final Wars countless times, I have come to a conclusion of my analysis on this odd movie: dissapointing. Despite there being mixed reviews, I would not reccomend this to anyone who isn't a fan of the Godzilla films. However, if you are a fan, It's worth a watch.

The pacing of the movie is terrible. Much of the action is taken straight from the matrix, and many of the monster battles are fast. While it was supposed to represent how strong Godzilla is, it completely removes Godzillas personality. The acting is very unbelievable, and the SFX is the same way. There were only two parts where I couldn't tell someone was in a rubber suit, and that was the final scene.

Even though the movie isn't all it was cracked up to be, it does remind Godzilla fans of the 70's films without the campiness. The soundtrack is a good blend with the extremely fast pacing, and the battles, as short as they are, can be cool.

Despite being a debated topic, don't give up on the actual DVD set! It is one of the strongest TOHO Godzilla discs period. It isn't as quality as Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, but its excellent bang for the buck. If you like the movie, buy the disc. But play it safe.
