True Lovers [w/ DVD, Limited Edition]

I bought the limited edition from CDJapan when it was discounted--I wasn't sure whether I should buy the album or not, but I decided to because I thought the price was great. It turned out this was the best purchase I made last year. The album has became one of my personal favorites of all time, and I'm sure that won't change soon. At first few listen, just like with most albums that truly have that something that keep you coming back to them; it doesn't sound all that great. But the truth is--if you give it enough listens it becomes such an expressively healing musical journey (Which is not what you would expect from a R&B album). At least it's what happened with me and this album. First two songs betray the actual atmosphere of the album and are very uplifting and happy. Most of the rest (all songs but maybe one) emit and create a depressed and lonely world; something akin to searching for your lover (the person who saves you) yet somehow never managing to get anywhere near where your "lover" is supposed to be. I especially love the CD only cover of this album: it shows Miliyah embracing a statue and looking quite sad and lonely. That cover really portrays this album neatly. There is more to this album that meets the eye (or rather--ear), and I could write essays on it. The songs that (really) stand out are "All I Want Is You", "AIAIAI", "UGLY", "ROMAN", "LOVERS partII" and "Nemurenu Yoru no Sei De". Although I failed to mention one of my most listened songs on the album; Miliyah's cover of Konya wa Boogie Back, because her vocals in this sound just beautiful to my ears and the song is crazily fun for me. All the other songs are very, very good and are also my favorites. There isn't a single bad song on this album. To summarize: This album is more than great if you love R&B and if you need a more depressive sounding album to help you out with loneliness, low self-esteem and feeling lost. Even if by all means this album seems to be nothing but full of love songs; it's very easy to create your own meaning out of lyrics and connect it to your own life experience and thus enjoy it immensely. Even if most wouldn't agree with me: This is Miliyah's best work to date. LOVELAND doesn't top it and is far inferior, in my opinion.
