ふたつの世代の〈青春〉が交錯するロードムービー! 新人脚本家の登竜門ともいえる城戸賞を受賞した名脚本に基づく本作が、満を持して初のDVD&ブルーレイ化。「ヒポクラテスたち」で映像作家として高い評価を得、その後も平成「ゴジラ」シリーズなどコンスタントに作品を発表している大森一樹の商業映画デビュー作品。第3回城戸賞を受賞した脚本を自ら監督した。本作品で大森一樹は、弱冠26歳にして企画・脚本・監督・音楽の4役をこなしている。戦前・戦後期にわたって活躍し、300本以上の映画に出演した映画界の伝説ともいえる時代劇俳優・嵐寛寿郎、そしてサイレント時代のトップ女優であった岡田嘉子が、自動車泥棒の老夫婦という意外な役どころを好演。一方、海賊放送を続ける心優しき若者たちに若き日の森本レオらが扮している。さらに原田芳雄、早乙女愛らが脇を固めている。――自動車泥棒として指名手配中の鈴之介ともとは次々と車を盗んでは乗り捨てて、京都、奈良を南下中。一方、トレーラーに乗って海賊放送をしているダンプ、メカ、流、ファイトは最後の放送をやろうと和歌山に向かっていた。道中知り合った二組は偶然から誘拐犯に間違えられて、源田刑事率いる警察の追跡をかわしながら一路、鈴之介の目ざす目的地へ向かう旅をつづけるが――。
