Amazing 5

Amazing album, beautiful booklet, and stunning tracklist (Saku, The Final, Dead Tree) Complete album, great option

Withering 5

This was the first CD I was ever exposed to by this wonderful band. I ignored it at first, then something struck me to listen to it. I did and suddenly fell in love. I started to go backwards to their earlier albums (Vulgar, Kisou, sixUgly, etc.) to find how this sound developed. Sure the guitaring had lacked finesse, but it was solid. The vocals and the drumming became more complex. Shinya has always had amazing drumlines, but for instance -saku-, he blows my fricken mind with his talent. Kyo ranges so well from falsettos, to growls, to high pitched shrieks, to just his amazing Kyo vocals. Jesus Christ R'n'R proves his ability. The whole CD just pulses with their creativity and it is moving. From hard hitting songs like -saku- and Merciless Cult, to more meaningful Higeki wa and Kodou and dead tree. This is probably their best work yet. I believed some people said it was their downfall, and GAUZE was their best work (come on with Yoshiki? He is amazing and all but damn he has gone down. He worked with Paris Hilton FOR GODS SAKE) but Withering to death is Dir en grey's creative upbringing and there definition of their style. This is their most solid albums in their history. Period.

Good music will never wither 5

This would be a step towards the aggressive sound of The Marrow Of A Bone. Dir En Grey succeeds in combining beautiful melody with aggression, grunts and screams in their own unique way. Songs like Merciless Cult, Kodoku No Shisu Yueno Kodoku show this mingling quite well, whilst -saku- shows the raw destructive power of this band.

I can't get enough of the album.

Dir en Grey at their best 5

The best of the albums by Dir en Grey. This is a step towards their extremely metal side but it introduces the CD with a song as good as Mercilous Cult which ties greatly together with C. Saku is a great song for screamos or those that just like metal. Dead Tree is great with its conversion from country to metal in twelve seconds. Who doesn't love The Final. And the cd ends with really good heavy songs.

Withering and Withering 5

Out of all Dir en Grey albums, I don't regret buying this one in particular. All songs were heavy, yet enjoyable. One of my favorite Dir en Grey albums, I honestly give it a 5-star rating.

Very Dark And Violent 4

"Withering to Death" is a very rough and dark album.
Kyo sings not much on this album, the most time he screams. This album is not bad but I can't listen to it day after day.

Every song here is part of a masterpiece 5

Dir en grey brought their sound to an epic level with 'VULGAR'. Now they're taking it even further with 'Withering to death'.

The one thing 'VULGAR' was lacking was variation, which this album more than makes up for. They've kept all the best parts of 'VULGAR' and then added more new stuff as they're constantly moving and never settle with what they've achieved.

The impossibility to choose favourite tracks on a Dir en grey CD is always difficult, but I pass this time by simply saying that every song here is part of a masterpiece.

The total lenght is actually slightly shorter than 'VULGAR', but it adds to a great tempo and listening experience. Even though it's a complete album, once the final track is over, the yearning for their next album is near unbearable.

Good for ... 3

Good for the ones who love a very hard rock style, I'm not a big fan of the extreme rock, so I'm a little disappointed with this album, I prefer a hard rock a little softer like in ''Gauze'' or ''Kisou''.

An album I learnt to adore. 5

I wasn't too fond of this album the very first time I heard it as I expected the some what more industrial touch of Dir En Grey that they had on 'Vulgar'. Despite this, I learnt to adore this album.

Worth Buying 5

One of my favorite albums by Dir en grey, this is their first album that I ever picked-up and bought. Listening to it the first few times, most of the songs sounded the same, but the more I listened to it, the more I realized that each song is different: Some fast songs like Merciless Cult and C, some VERY fast songs liks -saku- and Beautiful Dirt, some slow songs like dead tree and HIGEKI WA MABUTA WO OROSHITA YASASHIKI UTSU, and just great rock songs like KODOU and Machiavellism.
Definitely better than Dir en grey's last two albums (VULGAR and Kisou), Withering to death. shows a complete change in Deg's style of music, which isn't necesarilly a bad thing. The band has seemed to mature, hanging up their Visual Kei attire and trading it for black jeans and armless t-shirts: In other words, a more rock n'roll kind of Diru.
In my opinion, if you ever pick up two Dir en grey albums in your life, pick up this one and GAUZE, not only because they're the best of the band's albums, but also so you can see how greatly they've changed in the years.

RECOMMENDED SONGS: Machiaellism, dead tree, THE FINAL, -saku-, KODOU, and HIGEKI WA MABUTA WO OROSHITA YASASHIKI UTSU.
