2009年に『さよならドビュッシー』で「このミステリーがすごい!」大賞を受賞した小説家・中山七里のミステリーをドラマ化。メガホンを取ったのは、WOWOWドラマを初めて手掛けた青山真治。主演は『連続ドラマW 震える牛』の熱演も記憶に新しい三上博史。また、役者としても異彩を放つWOWOWドラマ初出演のリリー・フランキーや、2011年に『ヒミズ』で第68回ヴェネツィア国際映画祭マルチェロ・マストロヤンニ賞 (最優秀新人賞)を受賞した実力派若手俳優の染谷将太が出演。 ――弁護士の御子柴礼司 (三上博史)は、どんな罪名で起訴されても、必ず執行猶予を勝ち取るという不敗の弁護士。その分依頼人から巻き上げる報酬も法外で悪評が絶えない。依頼をしてくる客層も悪く、周囲から敬遠されるばかりではなく、愛用の高級車に傷をつけられるなど嫌がらせを受ける日々だった。そんな御子柴が、係争中で被告人が圧倒的不利に立たされている保険金殺人事件の国選弁護士を買って出る。容疑は、町工場の経営者の妻・東條美津子 (とよた真帆)が保険金欲しさに入院中である夫の人工呼吸器のスイッチを切って殺したというもの。無罪を主張する美津子は自宅に半身不随で車いす生活の息子・幹也 (染谷将太)を残している。そんな中、事件の真相に迫っていたフリーライターが水死体で見つかる。調べを進める担当刑事の渡瀬 (リリー・フランキー)は、御子柴がある殺人事件の犯人だったという過去にたどりつく。
