人気、実力ともにNO.1のジャズ・ピアニスト=ブラッド・メルドーの新作! 今回はラリー・グレナディア (Ba.)、ジェフ・バラード (Ds.)のトリオによる7年ぶり久々のスタジオ・アルバム!! ブラッド・メルドー・トリオのオリジナル曲を集めたニュー・アルバム『Ode』。トリオにとって2008年のヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードでのショウを収めたライヴ・アルバム、そしてスタジオ・アルバムとしては2005年の『Day Is Done』以来の新作となるこの作品は、メルドー作曲による11の未発表新曲をフィーチャーしている。トリオの編成は、ブラッド・メルドー: ピアノ、ジェフ・バラード: ドラムス、そしてラリー・グレナディア: ベースとなる。「『Ode』は、ラリーとジェフと自分によるトリオの為に作ったオリジナル曲を集めた作品だ」とメルドーは語る。「彼ら二人がパフォーマンスを通して持ち込む音楽的な要素は、曲自体と分けることが出来ないと思う。収録されている曲のほとんどは、誰かの為のトリビュートであり、それを僕は“叙事詩”や“詩”的なものとしてとらえるようになった。ただし、僕たちの場合はああした厄介な言葉を抜きに歌っているんだけどね」とさらに説明する。曲のテーマとなっているのは、今は亡きサキソフォン奏者、マイケル・ブレッカー (「M.B」)、映画『イージー・ライダー』の登場人物 (「Eulogy for George Hanson」)、そしてギタリスト、カート・ローゼンウィンケルなどである。
