neolog A Solid Album From the GazettE 5

This album is not the GazettE's greatest. That doesn't mean that it isn't still great. The best songs are the previously released singles, but none of the songs are bad.

The whole album has the sound and feeling that the title implies. It demonstrates the abilities and talents of the band well.

The DVD is entertaining for a one time viewing. The video isn't one of their more creative ones and the behind-the-scenes feature is interesting, but not gripping.

All in all, I would recommend this album.

neolog Dim 4

The Gazette is as popular as it is for a reason. They are really outstanding musicians. They know how to write music and they know how to perform it. While maintaining their signature sound, they are able to come out with new styles for each album release.

Dim is a clear example of this musical ability. The overall album is dark and keeps this dim feeling throughout. This feeling is also visually presented through the package itself, especially the interesting photo booklet included. Each song smoothly transitions into the next. The short transition numbers that seem to be there to help this I could do without--they don't give much and really aren't needed to keep the feeling between songs.

The band sounds as amazing as usual. Ruki's voice is as smooth and entrancing in all the ballads as I expect from him, but he can also perform a head-banging song with as much capability. The rest of the band displays their talent just as well, creating a really exceptional sound.

Despite all the praise, there are also some forgettable moments on the album. After my first listen, there wasn't as much of an impression left in my mind as when listening to previous releases. My favorite song on the album is "Distress and Coma," which is not a new song. Although there is nothing glaringly wrong, there just is not that quality that I expect in a release from the Gazette.

The DVD with the limited edition includes the PV for "The Invisible Wall," which is visually beautiful and worth at least one viewing. In addition the DVD includes footage of the whole release coming together, from recording to designing the jacket. I found it extremely interesting to be able to see the process, but it was devoid of any display of personality that rendered it nothing more than educational.

For any fan, I would definitely recommend the album. It's a solid release, even if it doesn't quite reach the standards I have for the Gazette. For firt-time listeners, I would probably recommend one of their previous albums.

neolog A mature musical work. 5

Another work that has divided the fandom, DIM is exactly as its title suggests - dim throughout its core. It is a dark and heavy song collection, with potent drum lines and powerful guitars. Bass and vocals are more subtle in DIM than in any of GazettE's previous works, even if the overall feel is imbued with traces of GazettE's roots from Disorder period.

With four songs featured on singles, DIM includes eight new songs, and five instrumentals divided throughout the album with a purpose to compliment the songs before or after them. The new songs are a very classic GazettE combo of ballads and heavier songs, however, a classic dance or fun song featured on all previous albums (ie. ザクロ型の憂鬱, 生暖かい雨とざらついた情熱, ガンジスに紅い薔薇) is missing, thus even more emphasizing the darkness of this album - and DIM presents the feeling of gloom, melancholy and subdued aggressiveness perfectly.

From start to end, DIM is a piece of music intended as never-ending. When on repeat, the album dissolves with DIM SCENE and transgresses the boundary of "the end" as it smoothly melts into 「剥離」. While each song can stand out for itself, DIM can definitely be taken as a complete circle, as one sole piece of musical work, without a need to analyze its comprising parts.

The packaging of the Limited Edition is superb as expected. Nothing novel or unseen thus far, but interesting in a very GazettE's way. The box features the CD itself, a bonus DVD and a booklet with photographs depicting the sky, lonesome streets and abandoned buildings - all details that in me invoke a feeling of strong yet calm solitude.

I recommend this album to any GazettE fan (especially fans of their recent work), and any modern rock music enthusiast. The purchase is definitely worth the money, and it's not only a feast for ears, but Limited Edition is something nice to look at, too.

neolog Amazing Album Release from The GazettE 5

I love this album.

I was really happy when it came in the mail! I opened it quickly, and saw the slip cover that the CD+DVD case and photo book came in, and thought it was really cool! It's one of those things that have a moving picture when you move the item. (^-^)

The CD's songs are great, and I enjoyed every single one. Great guitar parts by Aoi and Uruha, awesome Bass from Reita, and great drums and vocals by Kai and Ruki. :) As always. I also liked the girls that sang in a few of the songs--it added a nice sound to them. (^^)
Headache Man, Distress and Coma, Nakigahara, and In The Middle Of Chaos, are probably my favorite songs from the album; it's hard to say though because all of the songs are so great! The sound is amazing as expected of Gaze, and I was truly pleased with this album. (^o^) The lyrics were beautiful! (T.T)
The DVD is also a great reason to purchase this album. (*o*)

The photo book is also a great addition, because it's an actual mini-photography book with photos that show the mood behind Dim Scene which seems to be the theme of the album. (^^)

Overall, the presentation, the sound, and the item worth is beyond wonderful. It was well worth my money and I will definitely be buying GazettE albums again!!! It was a great release, especially if you're a long time fan of Gaze like me. :P And the only thing I wish there was more of...would've been more pics of the Gaze boys. Lol, there were none on the CD or the lyrics booklet...but the music is so good that it doesn't really matter. :P

SUPPORT THE GAZETTE!~
PS: The wait time with EMS shipping from Cdjapan was really short, and it arrived only a few days after it's release. (^^) Also, it was in perfect condition, as is everything I buy from them. (^__^)

neolog How can they be this good?!?! 5

Simply, I absolutely love this album. The guys have changed their style once again, but it's good, yet again.

Beginning with the first track, I was surprised at how potent this "dim" and gloomy feeling was. But,this sentiment lightens later on as the album progresses, and additionally, the album still has a TON of energy to it, something I really look for in music.

My favorite songs (excluding singles) are "The Invisible Wall" with it's entrancing opening guitar riffs; "Headache Man", which is just a bunch of aggressive fun; OMG! "13STAIRS[-]1", which is just AMAZINGLY SPECTACULAR!! *drools*;the refreshingly light "Shiroki Yuutsu", the angsty, and dangerous "OGRE", and the calm-er, mesmerizing, "Chizuru"- reminiscent, "DIM SCENE". Pretty much all of it, but what can I say, it's just that good.

Yet, there were somethings that REALLY disappointed me. First of all, the rerecording of "LEECH". If it was only the distracting filters over Ruki's voice, the new version could have been salvaged. Yet with a faster tempo, in addition to the filters, it resulted in the song losing it's crisp and dense gravity that was characteristic of the song. I am glad I own the single. Yet, it is good to note that "Guren"'s changes have been minimal and "Distress and Coma", was left untouched and beautiful.

Secondly, I have never disliked, nor HATED a song of the guys, but I seriously cannot listen to "In the Middle of Chaos". This is the definition of a generic and mediocre pop-rock track, à la "Green Day". (I thank another reviewer somewhere for expressing this extremely accurate simile.) However, I think this song would not have bothered me so much, as if it were not credited to the otherwise amazingly talented and unique Gazette.

Now on to the bonuses. The "separate-volume booklet" was disappointing. No pics of the guys, but I guess some people may care, that the random "industrial" images were courtesy of the majestical Miyawaki san. The DVD was so- so, and at times, really irritated me. The PV for "The Invisible Wall" was great, yet the documentary was sub-par. You never get to see their faces, at it was painful to see the camera struggling to maintain this sort of "confidentiality".Yet, thinking about it now, it has made me appreciate the album much more being able to see the behind the scenes stuff. And did I mention how cute it was to see the guys go to L.A?!?!

In general, I don't think the limited edition is absolutely necessary but I'm glad I got it and I think big fans (like me ^^) should get it. The PV is AMAZING and I totally could not think of a better way to spend a few extra dollars to get that first press poster!!!
Awesome!!~ ^w^

Overall, this is the most tame and polished of gazette's work so far, but it is what is, impressively magnificant. There were some disappointing things, but all in all, I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

neolog Gazette is Love 5

Ok, this is not the first album by the Gazette I have and, sincerely, NIL is still my #1, but DIM is going to live in my iPod for a long time :).
I like the way band changes as I think sticking to one style is not a good idea at all.
Being a huge industrial music fan, I enjoyed all those noises and short melodies that make this album solid.
By the way, I recommend listening to DIM in headphones - this way you can catch all sounds as well as all shades of Ruki's deeply emotional voice.

Definitely 5 stars and waiting for new single.

neolog Amazing! 5

The long awaited album from the GazettE! A must have for fans old and new alike.

The band's sound has really matured, and albeit for some, who have felt that the band has gone in a different direction, I think that the change is something to be embraced.

One of the things I love most about this is the album's packaging. I love the amount of detail that is put into it! It certainly holds a few surprises that aren't immediately obvious to the eye, unless you have physically seen and touched it for yourself.

Musically, the monster of a 17 track album seems large at first, but taking into account that 5 tracks are instrumentals and a further 4 tracks are single-songs, that only leaves space for 8 new songs.

The instrumentals somewhat break up the album into certain sections, but overall, I feel it doesn't obstruct the flow of the album.

Although single-songs have been put into the album, the sound two older single-songs of Guren and LEECH have somewhat been altered for the album. The do sound somewhat different from the original single versions, which makes them a fresh listen, somewhat.

For the new songs, they all sound quite unique in their own way. They might, at first, remind you of other music, but fundamentally, I feel that this is the GazettE.

As for the extra DVD that comes with this edition of the album, I feel it is a very worthy addition.
The PV of THE INVISIBLE WALL, is obviously included.
The making of the album takes you behind-the-scenes, from the preparation, to the recording, to the CD cover photo-shooting, mastering of the album, and the final outcome. It gives an insight to how the band works in production and post-production.

Overall, in my personal opinion, I feel this is one of the best albums to date. The band tries a lot of new things, and I feel this doesn't fall short of my expectations for the album.

neolog DIM inside 4

I impressed with the jacket at first. Then the poster bonus too ?

Awesome album 5

I'm a little late in reviewing this album, but here it goes.

DIM is by far my favourite album from Gazette. I was wondering if they could come up with something even better than Stacked Rubbish and DIM delivered. Maybe because this album's sonority is more of my taste than the previous one.

I was highly enthusiastic when it came in the mail (only 2 days after it was released!) and immediately proceeded to see what came with the limited edition.

The cover is probably the most awesome cover I ever saw in an album. Really. I can't get enough of staring at it. It was really a great idea to make it that away.

Concerning the booklet, I wasn't expecting it to have that kind of pictures, but I can understand the idea behind it. It's not a completely necessary thing, but is a nice addition nonetheless

The dvd was - besides the music - my favourite part. The Invisible Wall has a great PV, probably their best until now. And I really enjoyed the documentary in which we could see their everyday work at the studio while recording the album.

As far as the album itself is concerned, I see no flaws to point at. I like all songs and my favourites are (excluding the singles): Nakigahara, DIM SCENE, THE INVISIBLE WALL and A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN.

Once again, it was a great work by Gazette and a must have for every fan. It was well worth the price and you always have the regular edition :).

DIM Delivers! 4

I've been listening to this CD every day in my car. The music is very accessible. Although somewhat experimental at times, it's not nearly as challenging as some of STACKED RUBBISH was (no rapping, for instance).

I must admit I'm not that crazy about the too-poppy IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS or the don't-care-about-melody OGRE. LEECH has been slightly remixed, while GUREN is sporting a remix and some new vocals; both of them sound great. 13STAIRS[-]1 is a winner as well....although it's not entirely appropriate for polite company! And the track I really can't get enough of is the exquisitely tragic NAKIGAHARA - epic and awesome!

The booklet contains scenery photographs that are evocative of "DIM". It is completely not necessary for the appreciation of the music.

I enjoyed the DVD a lot, though. I think the PV for THE INVISIBLE WALL is one of the best that they have ever made. And even though we only get to see their backs in the documentary, you do get a sense of what it's like to be in the studio and the work that went into creating the album. Every section is clearly labelled so you don't need to know Japanese to understand what's going on. If only every CD came with a documentary like this!

Mixed Fellings 4

Well i did like the album is nice but some songs are just plain weird or just a bunch of mixed sounds...
but some songs are very good!
I personally liked 13STAIRS{-}1 and NAKIGAHARA and OGRE

the artwork was very good too I like the holographic cover very nice

but the dvd was so disappointing!! also the extra booklet they don"t show their faces NOT EVEN ONCE!!
you may say well they want privacy but if you're making a dvd for the fans whats the point of having half an hour of backs?(very sexy backs though) I must say i find it a little rude even cause if it is a documentary shouldn't have like commentaries? and not just backs?
even so you can see that they put a lot of effort on the music which is good...

also does someone got the point the point of the extra booklet?cause is just a bunch of random pics...

I loooove it 5

I've literally listened to this cd at least once a day since I got it XD
I'm reaaaally really glad I got it ^.^

=) 5

This album is really great.
After NIL, it's my second favorite.
The band has really matured and they're trying out different things.
My favorite track would have to be 13stairs [-]1 when i first read the tracklist, i knew it was going to be an interesting song, and i was right.

I loved the documentary. i kind of laughed at first. When i heard that there was going to be a documentary, the first thing that came to my mind was... "oh, of course there will be no showing of faces" wasn't it.. kind of expected?
even so, i loved it, it was very interesting watching the album being completed.

I've been listening to the whole album so many times now. I get that gloomy and dark feeling. And it's almost like a movie playing. The SE weren't so bad.

All in all, this album was awesome.

What's going on ? 2

I'm really decieved by the limited edition... Firstly, the content of the packaging : ok, nice headache giving changing image, but the booklet inside I expected to have some nice photographs from the group didn't have any. Just some industrial photography, quite boring.

Then, the content of the DVD : I was expecting, for the price and with the publicity on the internet, to have the 3 videos, Guren and Leech included. Nope, just Invisible Wall, quite repetitive song and the video isn't special.

Finally, the worst : the documentary. I can understand the members to want to keep their anonymity by just showing their backs during the explaination of the creation of the album, but it's really boring. No comment, just see what's going on.

I've had such a deception for tonight that I don't feel like listening to the music yet. Maybe that will be better. The poster is OK, but a bit dark. I feel like the GazettE is starting to become too commercial and have lost what I liked about them in the past... Authencity.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G 5

First of all DIM was an AMZING album...EVERY track is so great to listen to and I never tire of it. There was an obvious hint of experimental music within the album such as with songs "Nakighara" and "A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN". However, certain tracks seemed to remind me of their older songs such as "Shiroki Yuutsu" and "OGRE". The five instrumentals were great as well and do NOT disturb the album's flow (even though my little brother found the crying baby in "Shikyuu" somewhat depressing).

Also, certain songs were remade such as "Guren" and "LEECH" to give a darker feel to them (at least in my opinion). "Guren" seemed to be more focused around Aoi's part and Ruki sang in a different key before the solo which made the song altogether more emotional.

Favorites of mine are "Nakigahara", "13STAIRS[-]1", "THE INVISIBLE WALL", and "IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS". But altogether I love each song. an AMAZING purchase for all GazettE fans. Highly recommended.

Beyond all expectations 5

I ordered the album only a day before the release date, because to be honest, I thought "how can GazettE make another album that beats the two previous ones", albums that, in my opinion was absolutely amazing. So I didn't really have high or any expectations at all.

Well, DIM completely blew me away and I had to eat my own words.
GazettE proves with this album that they have a lot more up their sleeves. They're experimental with the songs and they've matured a lot!

For example, track nr 13, in the intro when Ruki does the whispering, that makes me shiver, goes straight to my spine. Absolutely phenomenal.

I would say this is honestly their best album to date and I know, GazettE fans won't be disappointed buying this album. Highly recommended!

All that I wanted 5

Maybe it's unusual style for Gazette but I actually expected they do something like this. So all my wishes about this album came true, I'm glad.

Song By Song Review 5

BY FAR my favorite album from the gazette every song is really impressive. My favorites are:
the invisible wall, a moth under the skin, nakigahara, distress and coma, dim scene. but the whole album is great!

and for javier: the separate booklet does come with your limited edition you don't need to get te first press wich is sold out, the only difference with the first press is that the album came with a poster. and the booklet is a bunch of photographs, really cool.
