イライジャ・ウッド、ジョン・キューザック 実力派俳優が織りなす緊張感に満ちた極上サスペンスの誕生! ――若き天才ピアニスト、トム(イライジャ・ウッド)は、ある出来事をきっかけにステージ恐怖症に陥っていたが、人気女優である妻エマ(ケリー・ビシェ)に背中を押され、5年ぶりに表舞台に立った。恩師パトリック・ゴーダルーの追悼コンサートに復帰したトムには、遺品である至高のグランドピアノ、ベーゼンドルファー"インペリアル"が用意されていた。ついにコンサートが開始され、トムは演奏に集中するが、譜面には「一音でも間違えるとお前を殺す」という謎のメッセージが書かれ、姿なきスナイパー(ジョン・キューザック)の銃口が自分に向けられていることに気が付く。脅迫に従い、難曲「ラ・シンケッテ」に挑むが、この曲は、世界中でパトリックとトムのふたり以外は演奏不可能と言われ、トムのトラウマとなったものだった・・・。はたしてトムが向き合ういわくつきのグランドピアノと黒鍵には、いかなる重大な秘密が隠されているのか。また、絶体絶命の状況のもと、トムはこの究極の難曲を完奏できるのだろうか。やがて訪れたコンサートのクライマックス、天才ピアニストの運命はいかに―。
