Impressive musicians list indeed. While the playing from such excellent players is stellar as expected, the writing and structure of the tunes is not too interesting to this listener. Thus the music doesn't provide much appeal or context for the players to shine as I was hoping. The lack of luster for me means this is not up to par with the tunes these folks typically appear on from this time frame (1979). It sounds like what it is: tunes recorded for a soundtrack (all written by Teo Macero) that were not used and an album was released with an impressive players list - but that seems about it. Steve Khan displays his Columbia-era sound, Gadd is solid as usual. But not something I'll listen to often. Maybe it'd be different for me if I had some history with this album or if the visual (movie) was present?
