Written, composed and produced by Giant Swing Productions' T.Kura and michico, WILD is a perfect blend of pop, dance and electronica and is the hottest song to be released this year. The instrumental is so full of different elements but instead of being nothing but noise, it flows ever so fluidly and sounds awesome thanks to the highly developed skills of T.Kura and michico. However, with such a skilfully composed instrumental, was Namie able to deliver the vocals that it deserves? Without a doubt! Namie and michico have worked together on numerous occasions and when one listens to WILD, it's obvious to see why Namie chooses to work with the talented michico. Namie's vocal performance in WILD is literally faultless. From the chorus to the verses, Namie sings them in a way that is perfect for the song and michico's production did nothing but enhance Namie's performance. In a nutshell, WILD is quite possibly Namie's best song and one of the best songs to have ever come from Japan.
To make Dr., Namie worked with Nao'ymt who, like T.Kura, has worked with her on a number of occasions in the past. For those of you who have already listened to this song, you'll know that Dr. is one interesting song! Songs produced by Nao'ymt have always been solid and Dr. is no exception but it sure is different from his other songs. What makes it so different? Well, it was inspired by Maurice Ravel's Bolero, which is apparently an orchestral piece, and contains elements and influences from numerous musical genres like R&B, pop, techno and more. However, Nao'ymt worked his magic and composed an instrumental that is so interesting and different that you can't help but have the song on repeat. So, what about Namie's vocal performance? Put simply, it is good! Namie used Dr. to show not only her vocal abilities but her ability to adapt to different styles as well. Even when she singing like a opera singer, she does it with such ease and power and it is this power that often goes unnoticed due to her lack of songs that display this ability of hers.
Single Ranking: A+
There really isn't anything wrong with this single. While both WILD and Dr. can make fans wonder where their Queen of Hip-Pop went, no-one can deny that Namie showed so much versatility with this single and because she is so versatile, wouldn't it be a shame to restrict her to being nothing but the Queen of Hip-Pop? Namie has grown so much as a singer since her debut and I'm looking forward to see how she'll continue to develop and mature in the music world.
