社会に対して表現の自由を問う――結成当時より"世の中の痛み"を表現のテーマとして活動してきたDIR EN GREY。2015年9月2日、これまでその痛みの強さ故、規制により本来の姿を見せることがはばかられた作品「Agitated Screams of Maggots」「VINUSHKA」「Unraveling」「Revelation of mankind」の計4タイトルを収録した『AVERAGE PSYCHO 2』を発表。心を切り出し、身を削りながら作り上げていく彼らの作品には、強い意思が存在しており、その表現手法は"原爆""ネグレクト""虐待"など社会が隠し通そうとする"現実"を剥き出しにする。故に時として過激なものとなり社会からの規制にあう。しかし、表現をどう受け止めるかはリスナー側に委ねられているはず。本作は、DIR EN GREYが自らの表現を世間に問い、表現の自由とは何かを知らしめる作品とさえ言える彼らの粋を集めた作品。
