Really one of the best movies from studios Ghibli. I love the story and the music is great. Please not miss it :)

Customer Reviews
LAPUTA is indeed a beautiful film, and is one of my favorite Miyazaki movies of all time. However, I want to take to task the first review which says that the older dub of LAPUTA is better than Disney's; it's not. I heard a clip of this older dub, and I was completely disappointed--all the voice actors sounded bored and unlively, plus the dialogue is very choppy sounding. While it doesn't have the sometimes extraneous extra dialogue, I see nothing about it that surpasses the Disney dub in terms of quality or scripting. It was produced on the cheap by an independent dubbing studio, and the results are most obvious. Disney's dub isn't perfect, but it doesn't deserve the scathing criticisms from hardcore fans--the voices are better acted on the newer dub and the script sounds smoother. Plus, the new score by Joe Hisaishi gives the movie a fresh new spirit in a way that the original does not. If you wanna watch the movie in Japanese with better synched-up subtitles, then this DVD is good for that, but for the better dub, I recommend Disney's--it's better produced and more pleasant to listen to; and while it may not be more accurately adapted, it's far from unlistenable.
Made in 1986 is was the first movie created under the new label Ghibli. The character design is lovely, the voices nice, the story full of adventure elements and to no time boring. After all these years it is still one of the best movies which Japanese animation ever created. The story had influence on the later TV show The Secret of Blue Water (Fushigi no umi no Nadia). In Laputa a boy and a girl are looking for a legendary floating island called Laputa. A bunch of pirates and the secret police are on their track to get the mighty ancient technology and the treasures of the old castle. If such things are created: In whose hands they will be right?
