Ai Otsuka [Love is Born] 3rd Anniversary 2006 - at Hibiya Yagai Ongaku-do on 9th of September 2006

The show is a lot more back to basics then the previous two DVD recordings. There is nothing particularly artsy here, but I think that, in a way, that's one of the good things about this show. Where as most of Ai's work is very heavily produced, this gives a more real feel to the songs that can often be lost in more poppy acts. Unfortunately Ai's work has occasionally followed some routes that could potentially be seen as "false maturity", so not every track on here will be to everyone's taste. But whether you like the old or the new works, the louder or the quiter, there's a real good range on here. I'm only saying 4 out of 5 because I felt that some of the arrangements were a bit badly chosen for the songs, but on the whole, the atmosphere was very upbeat with this being a birthday gig, so it's fair to say there's just a nice feel to it. Just a shame she shares my birthday! Anyway, this is deffinately a worth while purchase if you're already hooked, but if you're a first timer, I would recommend the jam punch tour. It's older, but it's a much better representation of her work.
