Fantome [SHM-CD] /

      Hikki... A Fantome... 3

For almost 2 decades now I've been a big fan of the lovely Hikaru Utada. Never felt disappointed with any release and I must admit I have a very large collection of her discography including the albums she made in English (Exodus & This Is The One), so when I heard after a long hiatus she was finally coming back with new music, and heck, it being a full album I was ridiculously excited. I even really liked the cover. Then I got the CD. Most songs seemed quite good, but a couple just lacked to really keep my full interest with each additional play, and then there's ONE track on the album I simply CANNOT listen to, not because of Hikki herself, but because of the voice of the featuring artist. Sheena Ringo's voice is exceptionally cringe worthy. It irritates my ears to no end. I skip this song every time I put the album on. Over all my favorite tracks on the album are "Hanataba wo Kimi ni" and "Tomodachi" and was additionally happy the single "Sakura Nagashi" was included as the final track to close off this album.

Mama came to drag these other j-pop girls by the hair extensions back to the gutter where they crawled out from. Slay hunty.

      The Queen Returns 4

Utada's comeback album is a great effort. Tone wise it's her most consistent album and it has it's emotional high and lows with some nice relief among the ballads. She sounds as awesome as ever and the instrumentation is fairly strong. Some great features on this album and perhaps it's her best record in terms of flow since her masterpiece Deep River! Utada didn't quite come back with a bang but Fantome is a very solid release.
