Geron

After spending most of 2006 writing and recording tracks for the Painkiller, tetsu and the boys decided to do a quicky EP stretching out those muscles in a quick burst of creative output. With Masaru recording and touring even more so with the Cromagnons, tetsu and kazama are left sculpting the band sound as of late. Geron features 4 speedy tracks that play out like the more upbeat rock songs off of Scherzo and the Painkiller. Overall this EP was simply okay in my books. I love it because it's nil but in terms of the canon of nil-ology, It's just alright. It also depends on what you think when you hear nil. The rock tracks or the more midtempo stuff. This is very much the former. The vocals are abrasive, his voice showing signs of drink and smoke and his penchant for screaming. These creative bursts after long recording/writing processes (12 inplosion into The Covering Inferno, Excalibur into Scherzo/Agape) usually lead to less worked out songs that haven't hit the live circuit for a long time and thus are less fleshed out. I've already started skipping the title track after a few days of hearing the CD for this reason. A great firestarter at the shows, but a little whatever on CD.
